Riding for Ovarian Cancer Awareness

Good morning, everyone.

This message is of a personal nature, not Club business. I will be attempting to ride from Rehoboth Beach, DE. to Florence, OR. as part of this year's Adventure Cycling Association "TransAm Express" tour. My sidebar, and motivation, is to honor my late wife, Leslie, and raise funds for ovarian cancer awareness. I'll be gone from 24 April until mid-July. Feel free to access my blog (https://www.ridingforovariancancer.com/) if you'd like to follow along.

I'm working with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) out of Dallas, TX., (https://ovarian.org/), whose mission is to, "... save lives through the prevention and cure of ovarian cancer and to improve the quality of life for survivors and their caregivers." The NOCC is a "100% Four-Star" rated charity according to "Charity Navigator," meaning it has the highest possible impact on the lives of those it serves and makes the best use of donor resources. Indeed, "roughly $1.10 provides a dollar's worth of financial assistance to a patient."

All monies raised will go directly to the NOCC (none will be kept by me to offset the costs associated with this tour).

If you would care to make a tax-deductible contribution to this effort, please go to our donor page @ https://p2p.onecause.com/milesyourway/tom-eggers . The page has some background information on Leslie as well as the bike tour itself. Note that you have the option of either having your name and contribution level listed or hidden from view by others.

I recognize that most of us already have many demands for our charitable contributions, and you probably have a long list of organizations already receiving your support. I do appreciate you reading this far and will understand if you decide to give it a miss. I never keep score (except in tennis). Still, I wanted to share these plans with everyone in the event the interest is there.

Happily, this tour includes a sag wagon, so I don't have to haul all my gear. Unhappily, most nights will be in campgrounds, so we'll have to see how I feel riding an average of 60 miles/day, 6 on and 1 rest, where the "rest" part includes sleeping on the ground.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe spring/summer. Thank you for being part of our great Club. I'm looking forward to rolling along with you following my return. Until then,

Very best regards,

Tom Eggers
