DETAILS
Sunday may be the best day of the week to go for a bike ride. There is considerably less traffic and people in general seem to be moving just a little slower. Which is good because this ride first heads East and goes down to Wintler Park and follows the Renaissance trail along the waterfront. Be careful crossing the railroad tracks before you enter Wintler Park, they are widely spaced and can be very slippery if wet. On the Renaissance Trail be prepared to share the path with pedestrians and dog walkers. Slow down and enjoy the view! Or you may want to opt off the trail for a very quiet road that parallels the trail. Ask the ride leader about this option.
Once you finish up the Renaissance Trail you continue West and meander through the new waterfront. Since most of the businesses are closed, (no traffic), it’s a great time to ride through and get familiar with the waterfront scene. The roads along the waterfront have Sharrows so bikes are allowed to take the whole lane.
After all this sightseeing through Vancouver you might feel the need to stretch your legs and challenge yourself with some speed on Lower River Road out to Vancouver Lake. This is about 5 miles of a beautiful flat straight stretch of smooth pavement. Riders go at their own pace out to the Lake at this point. Although the rider leader or a designated sweep will stay with the slowest rider. The ride leader is always willing to help with flat tires and small mechanical problems.
This ride takes a break at Vancouver Lake at the bathrooms. Then it’s a straight shot back to Paper Tiger coffee shop for coffee and social time.
There are several routes to get back to the coffee shop but if you want to follow the ‘official’ route then please download the RideWithGPS route on the calendar, (always a good idea), or plan on following the ride leader.
Route and mileage may vary with the weather and mood of the group.
For any updates, you're welcome to text the ride leader: 503-367-4183
