DESCRIPTION

This is a mostly forested ride that circles the Trapper Creek wilderness area in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.  This is a ride that features a couple of long climbs and a long paved descent.  For me, the descent is worth all the climbing.

There are occasional views across the forest and at mountains. For an idea of what the ride is like, this link shows some pictures and videos from the ride last July.    https://photos.app.goo.gl/wecotSfxfnTqvK1g8

Most of the gravel portion is climbing or flattish.  When I rode this last year, there were significant ruts starting at mile 9 and lasting 2 to 3 miles.  I needed to take care to ride outside the ruts.  I do not know the current condition of the road.

The pace is the average pace I expect at the end of the ride. My pace on the climbs will be slower. This is a regroup ride where we will regroup at the top of major hills and at turns.

Faster or slower riders are welcome, but I recommend finding or forming a group to ride with.

WARNING:  This is an isolated area. I expect cell phone coverage to be spotty, at best.  It is important to download the route to your Garmin or other GPS device prior to arrival.  Turns are not always obvious. Taking an incorrect road may take you far off the planned route.  And you may not have cell phone coverage to be able to call for help. I recommend bringing a sattelite communication device, such as a Garmin Inreach, if you have one.  I will be bringing mine.

Ride Policies

We will regroup at the top of hills or other places for those keeping pace.

Faster or slower riders are welcome but be prepared to ride on your own.

All registered riders are welcome and may depart at any time to ride their own pace and distance; please let the ride leader know if you leave the group.
