DETAILS

The first in a series of longer weekend rides! Look for more longer-distance Saturday rides in the near future!

See west and east sides of the county including great mountain views, meadows, farmland, rivers, and wetlands with lots of birds. There are few traffic lights or stop signs as you ride lots of pretty country roads. The route begins with moderate hills/rollers and flattens in the last 20 miles. There are several options to shorten or lengthen this ride including a "bailout" about half way through.

The initial portion of this route is a variation of Tuesday's Reverse Newliner route. We proceed north along NE 20th Ave, NE Union Rd., and NE 15th Ave. before crossing I-5 via NE 179th St. which can sometimes be quite busy! Immediately after crossing the freeway, we turn right onto Delfel Rd. and continue heading north. We traverse rolling hills as we head north on Delfel Rd, NW 209th, and Lambert Rd. Eventually we intersect with NW Carty Rd. heading west until we meet up with NW Hillhurst Rd.

Once on NW Hillhurst Rd. we're on the Reverse Newliner route, riding it in... reverse. We tackle a few more rolling hills on roads that are, for the most part, lightly traveled. After winding our way back toward our starting point, we eventually traverse I-5 for a second time via NE 139th St. The I-5 crossing features a bike lane, but you'll still want to keep an eye out for cars entering and exiting the freeway; they're not expecting to encounter bicycle traffic at this crossing point.

Those who want to bail out at the halfway point should be very careful when attempting to turn left from NE 139th St. onto NE 20th Ave! When in doubt, use the crosswalks rather than trying to diving across multiple lanes of fast-moving car traffic to reach a left-turn lane!

The remainder of the route is essentially a slight variation of the Friday ride in reverse!

We proceed down NE Salmon Creek Ave. then head north toward Meadow Glade on relatively flat, car-free roads. Once we reach Meadow Glade, we head south toward Brush Prairie. We skip China Ditch, instead heading south via NE 132nd Ave. and NE 124th Ave. before rejoining the Friday Ride route at NE 99th St. We detour through neighborhoods, and past Silver Start Elementary, before heading back toward the start via NE 87th Ave and NE 139th St.
