DETAILS

This ride is part of a series of weekend rides designed to help you prepare for the Metric Plus route at this year's Ride Around Clark County event. We're not training on the RACC route itself, but we will build up to similar distance and elevation gain.

This week's ride uses the West Side-East Side route, which combines roads used in the Reverse Newliner and Salmon Creek to → Brush Prairie routes. This ride is similar in length to last week's ride, but adds in a little more climbing just to keep things interesting.

From Salmon Creek we head north paralleling I-5 on lightly traveled roads with some rolling hills. We join up with the Reverse Newliner route via NW Carty Road, similar to the previous week's ride, and ride it in the reverse direction back toward our Salmon Creek starting point. We once again get a reminder of where the "Ridgefield" name comes from as we traverse a number of ridges on the way back to our starting point.

Once back in Salmon Creek, we take a short break and then immediately ride the shorter version of the "Friday ride" from Salmon Creek to Brush Prairie and back. Luckily, after all the climbing we've done during the first half of the ride, the "east side" portion is relatively flat.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

This is a regroup ride, so if you're faster or slower than the ride leader you'll need to know the route! If you have a GPS bike computer (Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, etc) you should download the route to your computer before the ride.

VBC members get free turn-by-turn directions when using the RideWithGPS app on their smartphone! Find instructions for using RideWithGPS on the Club's Resources page. We also have advice on repurposing an old cellphone to provide GPS Navigation on the Cheap.

NOTES

  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to be a part of the announcements and safety briefing.
  • Riders are expected to have read the Safe Riding Policy and be familiar with the Ride Style Definitions
  • Please direct questions to the ride leader or Road Captain
  • Helmets are required. Lights (front and rear), RoadIDs and cell phones are recommended.
  • Remember - we want to be awesome representatives for cycling and spread a love for our great sport locally by obeying all traffic laws and riding in a safe and courteous manner. Ride safely and have fun!
