DETAILS

This ride is part of a series of weekend rides designed to help you prepare for the Metric Plus route at this year's Ride Around Clark County event. We're not training on the RACC route itself, but we will build up to similar distance and elevation gain.

This week's ride uses the NW Highlights route, which borrows some of the best roads from our previous rides. Did you like the Salmon Creek to Brush Prairie Loop? We've got that! Non-Throbbing Thigh Thriller? We've got that, too! Reverse Newliner (in Reverse)? Yep, it's here!

From Salmon Creek we head east toward Brush Prairie, just as if we were doing the Friday ride. We'll stop around the 12-mile mark at Hockinson Meadows Community Park for a break before proceeding north along China Ditch. Right after completing China Ditch, we turn onto the Non-Throbbing Thigh Thriller route so we can tackle the climb up Heart Attack Hill. We take a brief rest at the top of Heart Attack Hill and a slightly longer break after coasting into Battleground.

From Battle Ground we head west, still following the Non-Throbbing Thigh Thriller Route. When we get to the junction of NE 239th St and NE 29th Ave, we then switch over to the Reverse Newliner route, but we ride it in reverse back to our starting point. Fair warning: 2/3rds of the elevation gain for this ride happens during the final 1/3rd of the mileage. They don't call it Rigefield for nothing!

EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

ROUTE MAP

This is a regroup ride, so if you're faster or slower than the ride leader you'll need to know the route! If you have a GPS bike computer (Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, etc) you should download the route to your computer before the ride.

VBC members get free turn-by-turn directions when using the RideWithGPS app on their smartphone! Find instructions for using RideWithGPS on the Club's Resources page. We also have advice on repurposing an old cellphone to provide GPS Navigation on the Cheap.

NOTES

  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to be a part of the announcements and safety briefing.
  • Riders are expected to have read the Safe Riding Policy and be familiar with the Ride Style Definitions
  • Please direct questions to the ride leader or Road Captain
  • Helmets are required. Lights (front and rear), RoadIDs and cell phones are recommended.
  • Remember - we want to be awesome representatives for cycling and spread a love for our great sport locally by obeying all traffic laws and riding in a safe and courteous manner. Ride safely and have fun!
