DETAILS
This ride is part of a series of weekend rides designed to help you prepare for the Metric Plus route at this year's Ride Around Clark County event. We're not training on the RACC route itself, but we will build up to similar distance and elevation gain.
This week's ride uses the popular Non-Throbbing Thigh Thriller route. While this route is a bit shorter than the prior week, it makes up for that by adding two somewhat challenging climbs! Aside from those climbs, the ride is almost completely flat.
We'll leave the Salmon Creek Starbuck's and head east toward Meadow Glade and Brush Prairie using some of the same roads from the Club's ever-popular Friday ride. Just when you thought it was easy, we turn north, toward Battle Ground, leading us to the infamous mile-long "Heart Attack Hill" climb. The climb starts at a modest 1-2% grade, but don't believe RideWithGPS: the last, mercifully short, section of this climb has a gradient in excess of 10%! We'll catch our breath at the top of this hill, then coast down to the Battle Ground Community Center/ Battle Ground Skate Park for a longer rest.
From Battle Ground, we meander west through some neighborhoods on our way back toward our starting point. We spend 4 miles heading west on NE 239th St, which is a good place to pick-up the pace and burn some energy, should you want to make the final climb even more challenging! We turn south on NE 29th Ave and prepare to tackle our last climb: the mile-long climb up Mount Vista. While this climb looks intimidating, the gradient isn't particularly bad and there are a couple of downhill dips where you can build momentum for the next part of the climb.
Once we crest the summit of Mount Vista, we're treated to a thrilling descent as we coast back to our starting point.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Longer break at the Battle Ground Community Center / Battle Ground Skate Park (corner of E. Main St. & NE Fairground Ave) to recover from climbing Heart Attack Hill. Restrooms and water fountain may or (more likely) may not be available here.

This is a regroup ride, so if you're faster or slower than the ride leader you'll need to know the route! If you have a GPS bike computer (Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, etc) you should download the route to your computer before the ride.
VBC members get free turn-by-turn directions when using the RideWithGPS app on their smartphone! Find instructions for using RideWithGPS on the Club's Resources page. We also have advice on repurposing an old cellphone to provide GPS Navigation on the Cheap.
