For this special ride...Judy Boyle is the Ride Leader.
Dale Meier is the Tour Guide. A dynamic duo!
The newest section of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail is also one of the most spectacular, offering miles of car-free riding, sweeping views of the river, and access to five waterfalls, including the 190-foot Starvation Creek Falls.
The ride will be broken into two segments. We will start the ride at Historic Highway State Trail at Wyeth Trailhead. It will be an out and back to just past Viento State Park. The distance is 14 miles with 750 feet elevation gain.
We will then drive to the 2nd segment at Mark Hatfield West Trailhead. The car-free Mark O. Hatfield Trailhead just east of Hood River, winds through the Mosier Twin Tunnels and back for an easy, 10-mile round trip ride with 715 feet elevation gain. Along the way, it is impossible to ignore the spectacular geologic formations that tell the story of the gorge's creation.
Riders will look forward to stopping several times for photos of waterfalls and the Columbia River Gorge. Bring snacks and plenty to drink.
Address:
Wyeth Trailhead exit 51
750 Herman Creek Rd, Cascade Locks, OR.
This is a good 60 minute drive to Wyeth Trailhead, so please plan accordingly. Parking pass is required, you need a Federal Park Pass. You either need; 1) America The Beautiful or 2) Northwest Forest Pass. America The Beautiful is the most popular, which I know most people have.
Mark O. Hatfield West Trailhead
