This is a new concept, three-part ride. Part 1: Salmon Creek to Downtown Vancouver (14 miles). Part 2: Ride with City and County leaders out to Frenchman's Bar Park (16 miles). Part 3: Ride back to Salmon Creek (14 miles) from Downtown Vancouver. The "ride to the ride" leaves the 139th / 20th Starbucks promptly at 8 AM and rolls the west side to downtown at 16 mph and 20 mph (club warm-up). The City / County "Riding Common Ground" ride starts at 9 AM at the gazebo near the County Courthouse (1300 Franklin St) and rolls out to Frenchman's Bar Park and back. This is a friendly, everyone together, casual GROUP ride with friends and local leaders - experienced cyclists and brand new riders. Coffee after with friends new and old (political and apolitical). The "ride from the ride" reverses the trip downtown at 16 mph and 20 mph and lands riders back at the Salmon Creek Starbucks where we started. So the ride is either 16 tame group miles or a 44 mile "club ride sandwich" with a "soft and creamy center!" Some hills on the way there and the way home if you start in Salmon Creek. A nice flat ride out Lower River Road if you start in Vancouver. This is a new ride, NOT a hammer-fest, and not a typical VBC GRAN FONDO. Come out and ride with your club and meet some city and county leaders interested in local cycling.
Notes:
Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign up and be a part of the announcements and safety briefing. Riders are expected to have read the Safe Riding Policy and be familiar with the Ride Style Definitions. Please direct questions to the ride leader or Road Captain. Helmets are required. Lights (front and rear), RoadIDs and cell phones are recommended. Please make sure to print a ride cue sheet, if you need one. Make sure your bike is in good working order. Riders should be able to maintain the stated pace of the group they choose. Please communicate with the leader if you decide to go off route or not return to the start. We want to be awesome representatives for cycling and spread a love for our great sport locally by obeying traffic laws and riding in a safe and courteous manner. Ride safely and have fun!
