CLUB RIDES TO RESUME IN PHASE 3 (AUGUST?)
After much discussion with riders and ride leaders, the board is planning to RESUME CLUB RIDING when Clark County moves to PHASE 3.
We'll start slowly with some test rides to make sure our planning and provisions are as complete as they can be before opening the calendar more broadly. PHASE 3 guidelines allow for outdoor sports activities with up to 50 participants with social distancing and require face coverings when social distancing isn’t possible. The county submitted its application to move from PHASE 2 to PHASE 3 but movement is suspended for now. There will definitely be changes to how we do things as a CLUB (outlined below), but we believe that we can safely do this together!
Online Registration will be REQUIRED: Riders MUST register and sign the ride waiver ONLINE (there will be a REGISTER NOW button on the ride details page) for each ride and can download/print maps and cues. Ride leaders will no longer have a paper sign-in sheets or copies of paper maps/cues at the start.
Participation will be LIMITED: There will be a limited number of rider slots for each ride (5 to 10 initially). Please do not simply show up for a ride that you have not registered for. And please only register for rides you are sure you can attend.
Face Coverings will be NECESSARY: Face coverings MUST be worn at the START (before the ride) as well as during rest / food / drink stops if social distancing cannot be maintained. Face coverings may be worn during rides, but they will not be required while riding.
Distancing is IMPORTANT: USA Cycling recommends (and WA law allows for) riding side by side when it’s safe. When riding single-file (our normal practice), riders should maintain two bike lengths from the rider in front of them. Pacelines and drafting will likely be PROHIBITED. A rider who believes another rider is too close should politely ask for more space or simply drop back a bit. Old habits are hard to break so we ask that members exercise patience, kindness, and courtesy with one another as club riding resumes.
Ride style: All rides will officially be NON-GROUP as we restart. This means that while a ride will list a pace, no measures will be undertaken to keep riders together and those riding faster or slower than the ride leader (who will ride the stated pace) are on their own.
Riders: Riders must be symptom-free and follow all club and state health guidelines. If you are not comfortable with club riding under these guidelines, please continue to #GoSolo or consider OPTING-IN to a new PERSONAL RIDE email list called YOYO.
Ride Leaders: Ride leaders are volunteers who serve our club by providing guidance and oversight for our rides, but they are not social distancing police or mask inspectors. Please make their service a joy as they lead us in this challenging time.
We will communicate again once Clark County is in PHASE 3 to announce additional details and early test rides, but we wanted to get the word out about what's coming! Please feel free to share feedback with us by replying to this email or communicating with our ROAD CAPTAINS!
