Give More 24, September 24th, 2020
Every year RACC profits help us achieve the goals of our club mission: promoting safe cycling, giving, and community service.

Last year VBC donated to Bike Clark County and Wheel Deals in September through Give More 24, the annual event that encourages matching donors to 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofits from SW WA to amplify individual donations.

#1 Bike Clark County.  A sample day in the life of BCC during the Bike to Leadership program: high schoolers learn about bikes, but also life and themselves.  Some of these kids might not find a place at school “to belong”. At BCC they get a little extra attention, love, and guidance. On a B2L night kids put their heads together with caring adults and other kids to figure out a wheel problem, but wind up learning and earning trust and respect also.  But they’re kids, right?  So next – they ride!  Kids gotta have fun!  Other BCC programs and summer camps serve kids of all ages.  BCC gets the rest of the community rolling with great prices on new and used goods, complete repairs and open work stations for all. https://www.givemore24.org/organizations/bike-clark-county

#2 Wheel Deals part of Open House Ministries.  Walk in their door and chances are you’ll speak to Nicole, the shop manager who reports that VBC donations have been very much appreciated and used to buy new tools and train technicians.  Like several others at OHM, Nicole was once a resident at the shelter.  OHM is in a unique position to employ people who are willing to give their job everything they’ve got because they have been on the receiving end of the shelter’s generosity. About a third of the current staff were once residents.  When you do business with Wheel Deals, you get rolling again for a great price and help others believe in themselves.

Both Bike Clark County and Wheel Deals also generously provide us mechanics for RACC.

This year our donations reflect a year without RACC.  If you are able to donate this year, please consider Give More 24 for these organizations and your own favorites TODAY, Thursday, 9/24.

Thanks,
Jan

PS For those of us who've needed durable medical equipment after a bike crash, A Caring Closet provides FREE DME to anyone needing it.  You can donate money or your no-longer-needed crutches, wheelchairs, to them.  They're an amazing resource housed in a warehouse in Salmon Creek.  https://www.givemore24.org/organizations/a-caring-closet
