Bennett Pass XC/SNOWSHOE Outing
Meet @ Fred Meyer, Mill Plain & Chkalov, Vancouver. It would be good to arrive 15-20 min. early to allow time to transfer gear & get cars loaded. Park near Garden Center @ South end of lot. We'll carpool to Bennett Pass (5000' elev.) on Hwy 35 @ entrance to Mt. Hood Meadows ski area. High elevation makes for more & better snow for early season skiing. Terrain is rated intermediate but is relatively easy (novice) for 1st 3 miles. That makes for a 6 mile out-and-back, as much as most folks want anyway. Not suitable for beginning skiers, but snowshoes work for anyone. Great scenery with views of Mt. Hood & south across wilderness - bring your camera. Not groomed but generally has a good track. No skate skiing. No fee but drivers need Sno-Park permit. Watch Buddies list for continuing info. or call Jim O'Horo @ 360-449-0804 to chat. We'll need to communicate ahead of time to figure out who's driving & who is riding with whom.
